Privacy Policy

Last updated: February 14, 2026

SugarBelly (“we,” “our,” or “us”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use the SugarBelly mobile application (the “App”). Please read this policy carefully. By using SugarBelly, you agree to the practices described below.

1. Information We Collect

a) Information You Provide

  • Account Information: If you choose to create an account, we collect your display name and email address. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email, and profile photo from your Google account.
  • Health Data: Meal logs (meal type, time eaten) and blood sugar/glucose readings (mg/dL) that you manually enter into the App.
  • Profile Photo: If you choose to upload a profile picture from your device's photo library.

b) Automatically Collected Information

  • Device Identifier: A randomly generated device ID is created on your device to support multi-device sync and prevent data conflicts. This is not linked to your device's hardware ID.

c) Information We Do NOT Collect

  • We do not collect location data.
  • We do not collect contacts, call logs, or messages.
  • We do not use analytics, tracking, or advertising frameworks.
  • We do not automatically read data from glucose meters or other medical devices.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect solely to provide and improve the App's functionality:

  • To display your meal logs and glucose readings in your daily and weekly views.
  • To send you local push notifications as meal-testing reminders (scheduled entirely on your device).
  • To sync your data across your devices if you sign in to an account.
  • To authenticate your identity when you sign in.

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal or health information with third parties for marketing or advertising purposes.

3. Data Storage

Local Storage

All meal logs, glucose readings, and your preferences (theme, accent color) are stored locally on your device using secure on-device storage. You can use SugarBelly without ever creating an account, and your data will remain entirely on your device.

Cloud Storage (Optional)

If you choose to create an account or sign in with Google, your meal logs and glucose readings are synced to Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore) to enable cross-device access and backup. Your data is stored in Firebase servers located in the United States and is subject to Google Firebase's privacy practices. Cloud syncing only occurs when you are signed in to an account.

4. Authentication & Third-Party Services

SugarBelly uses Google Firebase Authentication to manage accounts. You may sign in via:

  • Email and Password: Your password is securely hashed by Firebase and never stored in plain text.
  • Google Sign-In: We receive an authentication token from Google. We access your Google display name, email, and profile photo. We do not access your Google contacts, calendar, or any other Google services.

Firebase Authentication and Cloud Firestore are the only third-party services used by the App. We do not integrate advertising networks, analytics platforms, or social media SDKs.

5. Device Permissions

SugarBelly may request the following permissions:

  • Notifications: To send you testing reminders after meals. These are scheduled locally on your device and are not sent from our servers.
  • Photo Library: Only if you choose to set a profile picture. We do not access your photos for any other purpose.

Both permissions are optional and requested only when needed. The App functions fully without granting either permission.

6. Data Sharing

We do not share your data with any third parties except as described in this policy (Firebase for cloud sync and authentication). We do not sell your data. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the safety of our users.

7. Data Retention & Deletion

You are in control of your data:

  • Local Data: You can clear all local data at any time by signing out and choosing to delete local data, or by uninstalling the App.
  • Cloud Data: You can request deletion of your cloud-stored data by contacting us. When you delete your account, all associated data in our cloud services will be permanently removed.

We retain your cloud data only for as long as your account is active. We do not maintain backups of deleted data.

8. Children's Privacy

SugarBelly is designed for adult expecting mothers. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. If we learn that we have collected data from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly.

9. Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your information. Data transmitted to Firebase is encrypted in transit using TLS/SSL. Firebase Authentication securely hashes passwords. However, no method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Request correction of inaccurate data.
  • Request deletion of your data.
  • Withdraw consent for cloud syncing at any time by signing out.
  • Export your data.

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us using the information below.

11. Medical Disclaimer

SugarBelly is a tracking and logging tool only. It is not a medical device and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease or medical condition. Always consult your doctor or healthcare provider for medical decisions, target glucose ranges, and treatment plans.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
